What is Japanese painting all about
Innovating "Exhibition" to "Amusement"
My artworks are mainly natural objects for instance animals, rocks, and trees or flowers such as Cherry Blossoms, wisteria, camellia and so on.
By arranging those fusuma paintings in a corridor way, I would like visitors to feel as if in midst of the true nature.
I am also planning to increase exhibitions at old Japanese houses, temples, hotels rather than museums or galleries, so that people can visit and enjoy art as part of sightseeing tours. Furthermore, collaboration with music or dance events will be fun.
Admiring the peculiar atmosphere, aroma, food, etc. of the region together with encountering residents are what I too am looking forward to.
Masatsugu Ito
Masatsugu Ito was born in Ehime in 1962. While he was a student of Japanese painting at Tama Art University, he studied under Matazou Kayama and Kiyokazu Yonetani.
After finishing the master's course at Tama Art University, he began to produce objects and installations. He got acquainted with Hoji Ito, a member of the Japan Art, by whom he was influenced to return to Japanese painting.
Since then, he has drawn fusumae sliding screen paintings with themes of flowers and trees.
In exhibiting his works, he always uses facilities like art galleries, old Japanese houses, temples, shrines and the public libraries so that more people can enjoy Japanese paintings in a relaxed manner.
