Pine

Since my mid-thirties I started to hang out sketching and taking pictures of beautiful trees and flowers all over Japan.
I found that a beautiful subject is not always suitable for painting. On the contrary, thought to be not much of a material sometimes turns out to be a perfect one.
Also, how wonderful it may be, some enables me from even sketching due to its location. Among thousands of trees and flowers, what I drew is only a handful and just one side of them. I have seen so many pine forests and aged giant pine trees lost during the last 20 years. It is said that the main cause is by the weevil, but environmental pollution cannot be ignored too.
Pine trees tend to adapt the environment that no other plant can inhabit. For that reason, it has been admired as "symbols of vitality" throughout the time.
In this piece, I tried to express the strength and the ugliness, the peculiar characteristics of the pine tree.
